PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior
Taylor Higa scored her seventh goal of the season in the 19
th minute, but a late second-half goal from Concordia allowed the host to salvage a 1-1 tie on Tuesday night at Tuominen Yard.
Â
Higa rejoined Emma Pringle of Simon Fraser and Hannah Huesers of Seattle Pacific at the top of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference goal list by beating an offside trap, set up by a
Meli Cortez pass, and finishing past CU goalkeeper Olivia Brock at 18:09.
Â
The Wolves (4-9-1, 1-7-1 GNAC) had four good looks, two at the end of regulation and two near the end of the second overtime to put the ball in the back of the net. Nearing the end of the second half, Cortez got behind the defense and had a one-on-one shot miss wide right while Higa, 29 seconds later, fired a one-timer high and wide.
Â
Higa sparked the last chances for the Wolves with another battle with Brock in the 108
th minute. Her free shot was blocked away by Brock, leading to a corner. Higa floated the corner kick into the box and
Savannah Bogan headed the ball wide right for the final shot of the match.
Â
Concordia (9-2-3, 4-2-3 GNAC) found its equalizer in the 80
th minute on a rocket of a shot from McKenna Stocker to the high right corner of the goal from 20 yards out. Like WOU, the Cavaliers also had quality looks for a golden goal. The best opportunity came with 23 seconds left in the first overtime as Bobbi Ecker had an open look to the right post, but was unable to get her shot on goal.
Â
Higa had seven of the 12 WOU shots for the match while Cortez had four.
Caitlin Kastelic made six saves while seeing a total of 20 Concordia shots while Brock matched the save total between the pipes for the Cavaliers.
Â
WOU will next face Simon Fraser on Saturday, Oct. 22 on Senior Day.
