Exhibition Victory

WOU rolls past Portland Bible on Sunday

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Five players scored in double figures and Western Oregon used a 20-6 run early in the second half to beat Portland Bible in an exhibition in the New P.E. Building on Sunday afternoon, 114-58.
 
Sophomore Malik Leaks led the way with 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting from behind the 3-point line and five rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench. Ali Faruq-Bey chipped in 18 points while Demetrius Trammell made four triples in adding 17 points.
 
Tanner Omlid had a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in 20 minutes. Bryan Berg hit all six free throws he attempted for 11 points.
 
Western Oregon led by three, 11-8, before the Wolves connected on 3-pointers from Trammell, Leaks and Berg igniting an 11-0 run over the next 3:09. The lead hit 20 for the first time on an Omlid lay-in with 7:48 left in the half.
 
A three-point play from Faruq-Bey and a short bucket from J.J. Chirnside off a Berg assist gave Western Oregon a 58-31 edge at the break.
 
The Wolves' offense sparked a 16-0 run over the first five minutes of the second half to build the lead to 43 and never looked back.
 
Western Oregon was 49.4 percent (38-of-77) from the floor on the night, 37.9 percent (11-of-29) on 3-pointer and 84.4 percent (27-of-32) on free throws. WOU outscored the Wildcats 50-16 in the paint and pulled down 55 rebounds to PBC's 23. Twenty-two offensive rebounds led to 30 second-chance points.
 
Yanick Kulich had nine points and eight rebounds while Isaiah Edwards netted eight points in a starting role.
 
The Wolves play its final non-conference counter on Friday night, Dec. 16, when it travels to Azusa Pacific at 7:30 p.m.
