How It HappenedWestern Oregon men's basketball team achieved a feat not done since the 1994-95 season – going undefeated at home in the regular season. The Wolves defeated Concordia 81-74 on Senior Night at the New P.E. Building on Tuesday.
WOU wrapped up the home portion of their schedule with a 12-0 record, improving to 24-3 overall and 17-2 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The Wolves started the five seniors on the roster and kept feeding the hot shooting touch of
Jordan Wiley, who connected on four of five shots from behind the 3-point arc to build a 14-point lead right before halftime. A late shot from the Cavaliers trimmed the lead to 45-33 at halftime. Wiley had 12 of his game-high 18 points in the opening 20 minutes while also pulling down four rebounds.
Western Oregon – which shot 46.4 percent from the floor in the first half – poured on the offense early in the second half, building a 20-point lead at the 12:06 mark with a lay-up by
Devon Alexander. Under the eight-minute mark,
Nick Nestell stole the ball and fired a crisp outlet pass to
Janvier Alaby leading to an easy bucket for WOU's biggest lead, 75-53.
Concordia outscored the Wolves 19-4 over the final seven minutes, pulling within seven after a deep 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Wiley scored 18 points to lead all scorers. Nichols posted his second double-double of the year with 14 points and 11 rebounds. He added five assists and a steal.
Andy Avgi and
Tanner Omlid each had 15 points.
The Cavaliers also had four in double figures, led by forward Riley Hawken with 17 points.
