TURLOCK, Calif. – After two impressive wins on Friday at the 2016 Tournament of Champions presented by the City of Turlock, the Western Oregon University softball team faced a pair of teams already with 20 wins on the season. Despite an early lead, the Wolves fell to third-ranked Humboldt State University, 6-2, in the morning before being shutout, 2-0, by Azusa Pacific University in the afternoon.

The Wolves fell to 15-16 on the season and 2-2 thus far during weekend tournament play.

GAME ONE: No. 3 Humboldt State 6, Western Oregon 2Western Oregon's attempt to upset the nationally ranked Jacks started out well. WOU scored in the bottom of the second after
Zoe Clark reached on an error and scored two batters later when
Lexi Jennings singled up the middle.

Stephanie Morgan faced one batter over the minimum over three innings, but HSU was able to score three runs on four hits in the third and fourth innings.
Sammi Cadwallader entered the circle in the HSU fifth and held the Jacks without runs for two frames. Three insurance runs crossed for Humboldt State in the top half of the seventh inning.

WOU used a pair of double by
Ashlee Lynch in a leadoff role and
Mercedes Green with two outs to get a run, but a final strikeout ended the game.

Green led the Wolves offensively going 2 for 3 with a run batted in.

GAME TWO: Azusa Pacific 2, Western Oregon 0APU pitcher Ariana von Zboray scattered three hits and outdueled Western Oregon's
Alyson Boytz in a 2-0 victories for the Cougars.

Timely hits followed errors as the Cougars tallied single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Both runs off of Boytz were unearned in her eight-hit performance in the circle.

Green singled in the seventh, trying to spark a late comeback, but von Zboray kept the shutout in tact getting a ground ball force out to end the game.

WOU had three hits against APU, all singles.

Western Oregon plays two more games in the Tournament of Champions on Sunday against Cal State University San Bernardino and Chaminade University.
