Higa goal enough for 1-0 shutout of George Fox

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Behind a 51st minute goal from senior Taylor Higa, the Western Oregon women's soccer team defeated George Fox, 1-0, on Thursday at WOU Soccer Field. The shutout victory was the first for true freshman goalkeeper Caitlyn Kastelic in her first collegiate match.

WOU missed out scoring in the first half despite outshooting the visiting Bruins (0-1) by 10 shots (13-3). The Wolves outshot George Fox 22-7 in the game, led by Higa and sophomore Dacia Alexander with four shot each.

Sprecher almost added insurance in the 85th minute, but her open look rebounded off the left post.

Kastelic made seven saves including an grab in the 81st minute besting a one-on-one test from 15 yards out.

The Wolves will begin a three-match road swing on Wednesday, Sept. 7 against Academy of Art in San Francisco at noon.
