Cavaliers Slide Past Wolves in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – Kaylie Boschma scored 12 points while pulling down nine rebounds, but host Concordia had three players in double figures and pulled away with a 12-0 fourth quarter run in Tuesday's 55-46 victory over Western Oregon at LCEF Court.

Sydney Azorr had nine points and six rebounds plus Savannah Heugly matched Boschma with nine rebounds for the Wolves (6-8, 2-5 Great Northwest), who held the Cavaliers (5-10, 2-5 GNAC) to 32.8 percent despite allowing seven make from behind the 3-point arc.

It was the Cavaliers' second win against Western Oregon in Portland over the last three years and avenged last season's 10-point loss late in the season.

Kizzah Meltezo had a game-high 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc for Concordia, which snapped a four-game skid.

WOU rallied in the final minutes of the first quarter with triples from Boschma and Launia Davis to take a 10-8 lead.

Concordia took control in the second half going 7-of-16 from the floor in outpacing the Wolves 19-11 to take a 27-21 lead into the halftime locker room.

Western Oregon used the majority of the third quarter to erase Condordia's six-point halftime advantage and tied the game twice late in the period.

A 3-pointer with 1:17 on the clock put CU's lead at 40-37 and began a CU 12-0 run that crested their lead to 51-39 with 4:31 left in regulation.

The Wolves held the home team without a field goal for over four minutes in the last chance comeback. Ali Nelke launched the push with to charity shots while Boschma followed with a jumper and free throw. Kennedy Corrigan brought WOU within five with a driving lay-in, but the team missed five shots over the final minute as the comeback stalled.

For the game, the Wolves shot 33.3 percent (18-of-54) and outrebounded CU 45 to 37.

The second game of a four-game road trip continues Saturday, Jan. 14 when Western Oregon faces Montana State Billings at 5:15 p.m. Mountain (4:15 p.m. Pacific).
