MONMOUTH, Ore.—Holding Western Oregon University to a season-low 261 total yards on offense, No. 10-ranked Central Washington University improved to 7-0 on the season with a 42-0 win at McArthur Field on Saturday.
Holding a 7-0 lead midway through the first, Central Washington (7-0, 5-0 GNAC) scored a trio of touchdowns before the half, including a 4-yard touchdown pass from Reilly Hennessey with 40 seconds left on the clock to spur on the win.
The Wolves nearly placed the first points on the board with a first-quarter drive starting in CWU territory. Armed with a first-and-goal from the 9-yard line, a holding penalty and three incompletions, the final attempt on fourth down, prevented the game's opening score.
Later in the half, the Wolves registered a pair of first downs to approach midfield, only to see CWU lineman Bo Banner step in front of a
Nick Duckworth pass and stumble 41 yards for a score to expand the Wildcat's lead to 21-0.
With three touchdown passes in the first half already, Hennessey completed two more in the end zone in the second half with Christian Gasca and Jojo Hillel on the receiving end.
Overall, the Wildcats compiled 474 yards of total offense with Hennessey completing 24-of-32 attempts for 364 yards and the five touchdowns. Gasca delivered 149 of those yards on five catches.
Duckworth ended the day with a 10-of-20 line for 83 yards while
Phillip Fenumiai completed 12-of-20 attempts for 115 yards.
Taylor Poyadue gained 75 yards on 18 rushing attempts.
Paul Revis caught eight passes for 96 for the Wolves.
Western Oregon will return to action at No. 25-ranked Humboldt State University on Saturday, Oct. 21. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Arcata, Calif.
