Holm halts Wolves in overtime

NAMPA, Idaho—Northwest Nazarene University's Hannah Holm notched the golden goal in the 98th minute as the Crusaders defended their home field with a 1-0 win against Western Oregon University on Saturday morning.

Playing its sixth overtime match of the season, and fourth occurrence in its last six contests, Western Oregon fell to 2-8-2 overall on the season and 1-5-2 in GNAC play with the result. Northwest Nazarene improved to 8-5-1 on the year and 5-3-1 in league contests.

After a scoreless regulation, NNU's Madi Taylor, set up just inside the 18-yard line, dropped a quick pass to teammate Hannah Holm who pushed the ball into the net from five yards out for her first goal of the season.

The Crusaders finished with a 12-to-9 advantage in total shots, including registering the lone two attempts in the overtime session.

Meli Cortez provided three of WOU's nine shots with two attempts credited as on goal. Cortez provided the Wolves' bets scoring chance with a shot on goal that was saved by NNU defender Olivia Carter from the back line in the 22nd minute of play.

Kaili Brundage also tested NNU keeper Danielle Ortiz in the 33rd minute while Alexie Morris forced another Crusader save moments before the half.

Both keepers came up with four saves in the match with Danielle Ortiz picking up the shut out win.

The Wolves will close out its four-match road string at Concordia University on Thursday, October 19. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Tuominen Yard in Portland
