FAIRBANKS, Alaska—Hitting .347 for the match, THE University of Alaska Fairbanks defended its home court with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-10) win against Western Oregon in GNAC volleyball action at the Alaska Airlines Court on Saturday.
With the win, Alaska improved to 11-16 overall on the year and 4-14 in GNAC matches while Western Oregon fell to 6-19 on the season and 2-16 in league competition.
The Wolves will close out the season at home next week with a Thursday match against Seattle Pacific before the finale against Saint Martin's on Saturday. Both matches are set to begin at 7 p.m. inside the New P.E. Gym with WOU's two seniors Alisha Bettinson and Sydney Blankinship recognized prior to Saturday's Senior Day match.
Holding the Wolves to .030 and .079 hitting percentages in the first two sets, the Nanooks' defense led the way to the commanding 2-0 match lead on its home court. The offense, however, took over in the finale as UAF struck for 15 kills against two errors (.520) for the decisive 25-10 win in the third set.
Lahra Weber led all attackers with 10 kills while teammate Maddie Davis finished with seven terminations.
Hitting .333 on the night, Jenna Compton led WOU with nine kills while Libbie Hoene and Bettinson shared the team lead with eight digs each.
