Faruq-Bey nets season high as Wolves improve to 6-0

BELMONT, Calif.—Forcing 23 turnovers, Western Oregon University defeated Notre Dame de Namur, 87-48, in wire-to-wire fashion in the final game of the Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday.  

Western Oregon (6-0) jumped out to an 11-1 start with three different players hitting 3-pointers in the preliminary stages. Ali Faruq-Bey opened the game with the initial bucket while Riley Hawken and Tanner Omlid joined the barrage for the early 10-point lead over the host team from Notre Dame de Namur (0-4).

The Argonauts briefly cut the spread to single digits with the score 11-4 but the Wolves continued the assault and eventually secured a 47-29 advantage at the break. The Argonauts never got closer than 20 points in the second half.

Hitting 5-of-9 from 3-point distance, Feruq-Bey led the team with 19 points while Omlid (11), Hawken (10) and Demetrius Trammell (10) gave the Wolves four scorers in double figures.

Overall, the Wolves connected on 14-of-30 from beyond the 3-point line while holding the Argos to just 2-of-14 from beyond the arc, giving WOU a 36-point advantage from deep.

NDSU was paced by Chazz Wade, with a team-high 12 points.

Undefeated after appearances in three different tournaments, Western Oregon holds a point differential of more than +21 over its opponents after outscoring its six foes by an average score of 92.0 to 70.3.

WOU will open conference play at Simon Fraser and Western Washington next week. WOU will face Simon Fraser on Nov. 30 and Western Washington on Dec. 2. WWU received votes in the latest NCAA DII Coaches Poll. The Wolves will proceed to play its final two non-conference games of the season by hosting Portland Bible College on Dec. 7 before traveling to face Tarleton State University in Texas on Dec. 12.
