Wolves open season at home at Hampton Inn DII Shootout

MONMOUTH, Ore.—After a series of exhibition contests, the Western Oregon University women's basketball team will open the 2017-18 season at home by hosting the WOU/Hampton Inn DII Shootout inside the New P.E. Gymnasium on Nov. 11-12. Joining the Wolves in action for four games over two days will be fellow GNAC foe Saint Martin's University, Cal State San Bernardino and Utah's Dixie State University.

Saturday, Nov. 11
12 pm – Saint Martin's vs. CSU San Bernardino
2 pm – Western Oregon vs. Dixie State

Sunday, Nov. 12
12 pm – Saint Martin's vs. Dixie State
2 pm – Western Oregon vs. Cal State San Bernardino

TICKETS
Single-day tickets are available for purchase at the door and online for $10. In addition, a tournament combination pass that includes four men's basketball games from the GNAC/PacWest Challenge on Nov. 10-11 is available for $25. In total, eight basketball games will be played inside the New P.E. Building this week.

ABOUT CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO (0-0)
The Coyotes were picked to place eighth out of 13 teams in the CCAA this season according to the league's preseason poll… CSUSB posted a 15-10 overall record a year ago and went 12-8 in conference play… The Coyotes return its second leading scorer in Sabrea Coleman (9.2 ppg)… Playing in just 10 games a year ago, Ashley Carson also returns after nearly reaching double figures in scoring (9.2 ppg).

ABOUT DIXIE STATE (0-0)
The Trailblazers were selected to place 10th out of 14 teams in the PacWest according to the leagues' preseason poll… Dixie State went 5-21 overall last season and 5-15 in conference play… Junior guard Tamina Jordan led the club last season with 11.0 points per game... The team returns its top four scorers from a year ago with senior center Ashlee Burge (9.8 ppg), senior guard Matti Ventling (9.4 ppg) and sophomore guard Ali Franks (8.7 ppg) all back to the squad.

ABOUT SAINT MARTIN'S (0-0)
The Saints were picked to place 11th in the GNAC standings according to the coaches' preseason poll… SMU ended last year with a 5-23 overall record and a 1-19 mark in conference play... The Saints are led by senior forward Elin Johansson, an Honorable Mention All-GNAC selection last season… After averaging a team-high 13.9 points per game for ninth in GNAC scoring, Johansson is the lone Saint on the GNAC Preseason All-Conference Team.

ABOUT WESTERN OREGON (0-0)
The Wolves were picked to place ninth in the GNAC according to the league's preseason poll… WOU finished last season with a 9-19 overall record and a 4-16 ledger in conference play… The Wolves return all five starters and its top six scorers from a year ago… Sydney Azorr was selected to the Preseason All-GNAC team after scoring 10 points per game… Shelby Snook led the team in scoring a year ago with 13.6 points per game while Jasmine Miller, Kaylie Boschma and Ali Nelke return after multiple starting assignments last season.
