NAMPA, Idaho—Using an extended run to open the second quarter, Northwest Nazarene University defeated Western Oregon University, 94-67, in GNAC women's basketball action on Saturday night.
The contest completed a four-game road stretch for Western Oregon (5-5, 1-3 GNAC). The Wolves will next take the court at home against Simon Fraser on Jan. 4. The opening tip against SFU is set for 7 p.m. inside New P.E. Gymnasium.
The Wolves managed a brief 14-12 lead following a Keyonna Jones jumper late in the first quarter only to see the Nighthawks deliver seven straight points for a 19-14 advantage at the first break.
NNU (7-2, 3-1 GNAC) went on to outscore the Wolves 21-12 in the second quarter to stake a double-digit lead in which WOU could not recover.
Twelve different players scored for NNU on the night, including five in double figures.
Lexi Tubbs led NNU with 16 after shooting 6-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range
Overall, the Nighthawks went 9-of-20 from distance (45.0 percent) and 23-of-28 (82.1 percent) from free throw line.
Sydney Azorr paced the Wolves with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting while Jones added 11 points after going 4-for-8 from the floor.
