How It Happened
Sophomore guard Kaylie Boschma posted her third straight game scoring in double figures for Western Oregon, but cold shooting plagued the Wolves in the second and third quarters in a 69-56 loss to Concordia Tuesday night in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

The Wolves played well in spurts in the first quarter. After spotting the Cavaliers a 7-2 lead, Boschma scored five straight sparking a 9-0 run that included a rainbow 3-pointer from the left wing. Jasmine Miller added a short lay-in and a returning Shelby Snook connected on a jump shot for an 11-7 advantage. The quarter closed with a triple from Sydney Azorr giving WOU an 18-11 lead. Western Oregon held the Cavs to three field goals, 25 percent overall shooting, in the first period.

Boschma continied her hot start with a layup early in the second half, but the Wolves would only hit one more field goal over the next 6:58 while the Cavaliers posted a 16-3 run to take their first lead on a tradition three-point play from Erin Higbie. Savannah Heugly's last-minute jumper closed the gap to 27-25 at the half.

After an Azorr 3-pointer made it a four-point game, the Cavaliers flew out to a 14-0 run over a five-minute span. Two Boschma free throws ended a long scoring drought, but Concordia had posted an 8-2 push for a 22-point lead near the end of the third.

With seven minutes left in the final period, Concordia crested the lead at 25 points. Despite holding the Cavs without a field goal for the rest of the game, the Wolves were only able to close within 12

Coach Quotes
WOU head coach Holli Howard-Carpenter after the loss:
  • "Concordia flat out wanted it more and out worked us in the second and third quarters.  The first three possessions of the third quarter set the tone and we went back to old habits when we got down."
  • Our lack of execution on the offensive end was unacceptable.  What's most disappointing is that we stopped playing as a team and that just can't happen."
