BILLINGS, Mont. – Western Oregon junior
Tanner Omlid was named to the 2016-17 Division 2 Collegiate Commissioners Association Men's Basketball All-West Region second-team, announced Monday morning.
Â
The recognition marks the third time in as many years that a Western Oregon player has been named to the CCA All-West team after former Wolves' alum
Andy Avgi earned regional honors over the last two years. Omlid becomes the fifth WOU player to earn All-West Region honors in the NCAA era, and second under head coach
Jim Shaw.
Â
In his junior season, Omlid was the only player in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference to rank in the top-12 in all five major stat categories. The first-team all-leaguer and league Defender of the Year was No. 12 in scoring (15.6 ppg), No. 8 in rebounding (7.6 rpg), No. 5 in assists (3.4 apg), No. 1 in steals (3.1 spg), and No. 7 in blocks (1.5 bpg). Omlid 20 or more points in four games and scored a career-high 34 points at Seattle Pacific on Jan. 5, 2017. He recorded the school's first triple double, also against SPU, on Feb. 4 with 18 points, 15 rebounds and a GNAC-record 11 steals during the game televised on ROOT Sports Northwest. Omlid is the only non-guard in the league's top-seven in assist-to-turnover ratio.
Â
Omlid helped Western Oregon to an 18-13 overall record, a third-place finish in the GNAC at 13-7 and an appearance in the GNAC Championships title game.
