Falcons stop Wolves in three

SEATTLE—Outhitting their visitors in each set, Seattle Pacific defeated Western Oregon, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 26-24), in GNAC volleyball action on Saturday night.

With the win, Seattle Pacific improved to 6-4 on the year while Western Oregon fell to 5-4 on the season. Both teams now carry a 1-1 record in GNAC contests after the first week of conference play.

SPU held the Wolves to a -.056 hit rate in the opener en route to a 25-17 win and carried that momentum into a 10-5 led in the second for a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Wolves grabbed a 9-8 lead in the third thanks to an Alisha Bettinson kill and later expanded the advantage to five points (21-16) on kills by Morgan Haskett and Bettinson .

The Falcons halted the run, however, with an 8-1 spree to create match point. At 24-23, a Mariella Vandenkooy swing evened the set for WOU before back-to-back kills from SPU's Gabby Oddo finished the contest.

Vandenkooy led all players with 12 kills, one more than teammate Bettinson. Oddo ended the night with 10 kills on 26 swings for a .385 attack percentage.

The Wolves will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 21 when they host Northwest Nazarene University. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the New P.E. Building.
