MONMOUTH, Ore.—Extending a shutout streak to three matches, Concordia University defeated Western Oregon, 2-0, in Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.
Concordia (5-2-1, 2-0-1 GNAC), ranked No. 9 in the West Region in the latest NCAA DII Coaches' Poll, has not allowed a goal in 355 minutes of action.
Western Oregon (1-6-1, 0-3-1 GNAC), meanwhile, has gone scoreless in three of its last four matches. Concluding its four-match home set, WOU will return to action on Saturday when the Wolves host Seattle Pacific University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at WOU Soccer Field.
WOU was outshot 8-to-2 in total shots in the first half with
Kaili Brundage creating both attempts for the Wolves.
The Cavaliers broke through in the 19th minute with Kyra Radcliffe, waiting on the left side of the goal mouth, cleaned up a scrum in front of the net with a tap-in from five yards out after a short feed from Kayla Braunthal.
The Wolves managed several goal-scoring opportunities in the second half, the earliest occurring in the 59th minute when
Meli Cortez lunged forward for a touch on a long service from the left flank. Cortez got a boot up and directed the ball to goal but landed in the arms of CU goalkeeper Anna Miller.
Earlier in the half, a
Kennedy Clay shot from the left side skimmed across the crossbar and out of play for a tantalizingly close game-tying opportunity.
Sydney Thomas also registered a shot on goal in the second half after Radcliffe posted CU's second goal, this time via a feed from Gabrielle Ewing.
The Cavs' final tally occurred in the last remaining second when Maddie Misi fired from long range after a breakaway on the right side.
WOU keeper
Caitlin Kastelic came up with five saves for the Wolves.
