FAIRBANKS, Alaska—Breaking a 6-6 tie in the early moments with a 10-point spree, the No. 6-ranked Western Oregon University men's basketball team never trailed in an 81-54 win at Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday night.
Western Oregon (18-1, 10-1 GNAC) held the Alaska (8-9, 6-5 GNAC) to 24.1 percent (7-of-29) shooting from the floor in the first half and committed just three turnovers through the first 20 minutes to stake a 36-22 lead at the break.
Dustin Triano scored nine early points for the Wolves after knocking down 2-of-3 from deep and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
WOU took even greater care of the ball in the second half with just two turnovers to extend its advantage to 20 points on a Malik Morgan jumper with 7:03 to play.
All 12 players that saw action eventually scored for the Wolves as the team cruised to its 11th straight win and its eighth win by at least 20 points this season.
Overall, WOU shot 49.2 percent from the floor while the Nanooks finished with a 33.9 percent clip.
Vince Boumann led WOU in scoring with 16 points on a 6-of-9 night while Triano (13) and Morgan (11) also reached double figures. Boumann and teammate
Riley Hawken each snared seven rebounds to lead the Wolves on the glass.
Joe Lendway paced the Nanooks with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
WOU will continue its Alaska road trip at the University of Alaska Anchorage on Jan. 27.
