Second-half spree leads Falcons over Wolves

SEATTLE—Scoring a trio of goals in the final 10 minutes, Seattle Pacific University downed Western Oregon University, 6-1, in a key GNAC women's soccer tilt on Saturday.

After conceding an early goal on a penalty kick, Western Oregon (5-7-2, 3-5-1 GNAC) managed to knot the match in the 29th minute of play via a Hannah Cabral score following a setup by teammates Kaili Brundage and Kaitlin Poe.

At the time of the goal in the 29th minute, the Wolves were tied with Seattle Pacific (9-4-1, 5-3-0 GNAC) in total shots at 5 to 5, but the Falcons dominated the final two-thirds of the contest and eventually registered 22 attempts while playing at home inside Interbay Stadium.

The Falcons retook the lead minutes before the end of the first half as Mickayla Mury found the back of the net and returned after the break with a quick strike as Emma Young, who assisted Mury's goal, made it a 3-1 contest in the 54th minute.

Giving SPU six different scorers on the day, Claire Neder, Kasey Reeve and Sydnee Smith scored the final three tallies with Neder's successful swing starting the late assault in the 83rd minute.

Western Oregon will continue its play on the road when it travels to face No. 18-ranked Western Washington University on Saturday, Oct. 20. Opening kick is set for 5 p.m. in Bellingham, Wash.
