Ducks pull away in second half for 77-58 win over Wolves

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon Ducks' second-half push helped to lift them to a 77-58 win over the Western Oregon Wolves in an exhibition matchup Thursday at Matthew Knight Arena.

The first half proved a competitive 20 minutes with WOU holding a lead for a majority of the first 10 minutes of play. Jaylyn Richardson and Darius Lubom each hit early threes to push the offense forward.

Kaleb Warner tied the game with a corner three at 17-17 after Western fell in their first hole. It was one of four 3-pointers made in the first half by Western Oregon on 4-18 shooting from deep.

The Ducks opted to keep their offense in the paint, attempting just three shots from 3-point range before the break.

Western Oregon had a noticeable advantage in ball-handling, committing just four turnovers to the 12 of the Ducks in the first half. That eight-point margin held for the entirety of the game, finishing at 19-11. The efficient possessions combined with 10 offensive rebounds left the Wolves down by just two, 29-27 at the half.

Oregon came out of the locker room firing with a 19-5 run to open the second half and push their lead to 48-32. They shot 61% from the field in the second half on 17-28 shooting, again taking just three shots from behind the arc.

Western Oregon was able to pull the deficit back inside 10 on several occasions, but could never quite close the gap. Freshman Jake Estep added in eight points to the rally in only six minutes of play, hitting both shots from deep he attempted.

Lubom scored eight of his team-high 13 points in the second half, adding four rebounds and two assists. He was the only WOU player to finish in double figures.

Senior Brandell Evans went 3-6 from the field and 1-1 from three for his eight points, pulling down five rebounds as well.

The Ducks were led by freshman Bol Bol's 19 points and eight rebounds in 34 minutes.

The Wolves have one more exhibition matchup on the slate, hosting Pacific Lutheran Nov. 10. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. at NPE Gym.
