CANYON, Texas—Behind a 5-run fifth inning, No. 13 West Texas A&M defeated Western Oregon, 8-2, in the final game of action at the Lady Buff Classic on Sunday.
The result provided a split between the two teams as Western Oregon (6-3) defeated West Texas A&M (6-1), 7-4, on Friday in the tournament opener for the Lady Buffs' lone loss of the season.
The Lady Buffs opened the scoring in the bottom of the first while WOU tied the contest in the third with an RBI double from Nicole Miller.
WTAM regained the lead with a 2-run fourth and once again the Wolves fought back, this time with a Sydney Bowers run in the next frame.
Now back to holding a one-run lead, WTAM broke the game open in the bottom of the 5th with a grand slam by Kourtney Coveney following a lead-off double and a pair of walks. Kylee Moore delivered a solo shot to left for the team's final score.
Kilee Halbert went the distance for the Lady Buffs to improve to 4-0 on the season while Chandler Bishop took the loss for WOU after going 4 2/3 innings.
After playing in a tournament in Las Vegas last weekend, the Wolves will continue its early-season tour with seven games over three days at the Tucson Invitational on Feb. 16-18.
