Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

SFU sinks Wolves, 74-57

BURNABY, B.C.—Overcoming an early eight-point deficit, Simon Fraser University defeated Western Oregon University, 74-57, in GNAC women's basketball action on Saturday night.

Connecting on a pair of early 3-pointers by Shelby Snook and Kennedy Corrigan, Western Oregon (8-12, 4-10 GNAC) jumped out to a 12-6 lead while playing on the road at Simon Fraser (10-12, 5-9 GNAC).

The Wolves continued its surge throughout the first quarter and extended the gap to as many as eight points (20-12) as six different WOU players contributed to the team's first 20 points.

Down six (20-14) after the first, SFU outscored the Wolves 18-to-8 to dominate play in the second quarter and stake a 32-28 edge at the break.

After hitting their first two attempts from 3-point range, WOU converted just 1-of-17 from deep following the opening moments to thwart any possible attempts to chip into the shortfall.

SFU, meanwhile, connected on 8-of-22 from 3-point range and used a steady aim for a 90.9 percent (20-of-22) rate at the free throw to keep the Wolves in check.

SFU's Tayla Jackson led all scorers with 22 points while Snook paced WOU's efforts with 13 points. Jasmine Miller added 11 on 4-of-6 shooting while Savannah Heugly finished with nine points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Wolves.

WOU will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 8 when the team hosts Alaska Fairbanks. Opening tip is set for 5:15 p.m. inside New PE Gymnasium with the WOU men's team facing Seattle Pacific at 7:30 p.m. as part of a GNAC doubleheader.
