Wolves collect point in OT draw at CWU

ELLENSBURG, Wash.—Going to overtime for the fourth time in nine games this season, the Western Oregon University women's soccer team managed a 0-0 tie in a road match at Central Washington University on Thursday.

Unbeaten and unscored upon in their last three matches, Western Oregon moved to 4-3-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in GNAC competitions. Central Washington, meanwhile, ended the match at 1-4-3 with a 1-1-1 mark in conference play.

Western Oregon was outshot by the home team 12 to 5, but WOU goalkeeper Alex Qualls earned her fourth clean sheet of the season by collecting five saves on the afternoon. WOU's defensive streak now stands at 300 minutes without conceding a goal.

CWU outshot Western Oregon 6 to 2 in the first half with Qualls coming up with three saves, including two off the foot of Makinzie Packwood.

In the second half, the Wolves survived a pair of shots off the crossbar in the second half with Lexsi Manning providing a tantalizing take in the 87th minute. Set up in the middle of the pitch and 25 yards away from goal, Manning delivered a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar to preserve the shutout.

The Wolves generated the lone shot attempt in the first overtime session with Isabelle Creighton forcing CWU keeper Emily Thomson into a save situation. Both teams took two shots in overtime with the Wildcats getting two shots off in the second extra session.

Western Oregon will make the trip home and immediately return to the pitch with a Saturday match against No. 17-ranked Western Washington University. Opening kickoff against the Vikings is set for 11:30 a.m. at the WOU Soccer Field.
