Alaska Anchorage wins tight 3-1 match

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Anchorage Seawolves snuck out a 3-1 (25-16, 26-24, 25-22, 26-24) win on Saturday on the back of Ellen Floyd's double-double for their 13th win of the season over the Western Oregon Wolves at Alaska Airlines Center.

The opening set went strongly in the Seawolves' favor, winning 25-16, compiling a .350 hit percentage. In total, the Seawolves marked a .264 hit percentage.

"The first set started slow, but we bounced back really well," said Western Oregon head coach Tommy Gott. "After that, we were able to execute our game plan."

The Seawolves got 27 combined kills from Vanessa Boyer and Tara Melton of their 56 total. Their only double-double came from Ellen Floyd who put together 35 assists and 12 digs.

The Wolves' lone set win came in the second set when they squeaked out a 26-24 victory. After a 3-3 tie, Western Oregon did not trail again in the game, pushing their lead out to as many as six before a tight finish.

"We saw a good turnaround from Thursday night. We executed our game plan really well."

Marlie Norman recorded a team-high 11 kills along with a .364 hit percentage to help the Wolves to the set win.

Sianna DeCarli also recorded double-digit kills for the Wolves, complimented by two blocks.

Maddie Mehciz added in a season-high 24 assists along with two service aces and five digs.

"She (Mehciz) did a good job of running her court. She did well distributing the ball and getting her hitters engaged."

The Seawolves won each of the final two games by three points or less to edge out the victory.

The Wolves' next match comes Oct. 4 at home against Simon Fraser University. First serve comes at 7 p.m. at NPE Gym.
