MONMOUTH, Ore.—Trailing at the break, the Academy of Art posted a pair of second-half goals to defeat Western Oregon University, 2-1, in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday.
Western Oregon (1-2-1) opened the game's account in the 18th minute of play as
Alexie Morris delivered a successful strike from seven yards out following a corner kick delivery by
Kaili Brundage.
The Wolves outshot the Urban Knights in both halves, but Academy of Art (2-1-0) made full use out of their four second half attempts with a pair of scores.
Alice Michelle found the equalizer in the 59th minute with a low drive from 13 yards out. Planted on the right side, Michelle used a slight touch following a cross by Baylie Christensen to set up the attempt.
Michelle returned with a corner kick that led to the game winner in the 78th minute, this time with Silvia Fernstrom finding the back of the net with a 15-yard connection that snuck through traffic.
Overall, WOU held a 10-7 advantage in total shots.
WOU will return to action for a road match at Pacific University on Monday, Sept. 10. Opening kick is set for 5 p.m. in Forest Grove, Oregon. WOU will begin GNAC competition on Sept. 15 at Simon Fraser University.
