Men's basketball rains from deep in win over Warner Pacific

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon men's basketball team handled another exhibition opponent on Friday night, taking care of the Warner Pacific Knights in an 85-68 win at NPE Gym.

Western Oregon got off to a quick run to open the night. After Warner Pacific popped a jumper for the first points of the game, the Wolves went on a seven-point run and never trailed again in the contest.

3-point shooting was the key to the Wolves' offense, hitting 17-of-38 shots from deep for 44.7 percent. Six different Wolves hit a 3-pointer in the game.

Four players finished in double figures in scoring for WOU, led by the 21 of Jaylyn Richardson. Richardson added on seven rebounds and six assists.

A trio of Wolves hit four 3-pointers each in the game. Collin Warmouth, Dalven Brushier and Cam Cranston all put up big nights from deep, anchored by the 18 pointes of Cranston. Warmouth hit his first four 3-pointers of the game and finished 4-for-5 beyond the arc.

Warner Pacific relied on the 17 points of Kendall Watson and 15 of Miles Brown offensively. Brown finished just shy of a double-double with seven rebounds. Watson was the most efficient shooter of the evening, going 8-for-12, shooting just once from 3-point range.

Coming out of the locker room with a 40-25 lead, Western pulled away even further in the opening minutes of the second half. The Wolves opened on a 17-7 run and pushed their lead to as many as 28 after the break.

John Morrill-Keeler nearly had a double-double of his own, pulling down 11 rebounds with eight points and two rebounds.

WOU has now completed two of their three exhibition games scheduled for this season, leaving them as the last GNAC team yet to record an official game.

Next up, the Wolves open their regular season on Saturday, Nov. 16, against the Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans. Tipoff in Monmouth is set for 7 p.m. PST at NPE Gym.
