Volleyball wraps up road schedule with loss at Alaska

Box Score FAIRBANKS, Alaska – After a solid showing in the first set, the Western Oregon volleyball team faded in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-11) loss to the Alaska Nanooks on Saturday afternoon at the Patty Center in their final road game of the 2019 season.
 
Western Oregon (4-19, 2-14 GNAC) closed out their road schedule with a 1-10 record away from home, picking up their lone win in Lacey against Saint Martin's.
 
The Wolves made their best showing in the first set, leading by as many as six at 12-6. Alaska (13-11, 10-6 GNAC) bounced back with five straight points and out-scored the Wolves 19-7 to close out the set for the win.
 
The Wolves were held to a .070 hitting percentage in the game, registering their best mark in the first game with a .111 clip on 11 kills.
 
No WOU player had more than six kills in the match and just four would have more than two. Sianna DeCarli and Lauren Smith led the attack with six kills each while Delaney Smith provided another five on a .444 hitting percentage.
 
Makenzie York earned a start on Saturday, delivering four kills and a block in the performance.
 
The Nanooks improved their hit percentage each of the three sets, finishing the day off with a .346 overall percentage after a .440 tally in the third set.
 
Alaska was led by the match-high 10 kills of Lahra Weber who also had seven digs, two assists and two aces. Teammate Cate Whiting had a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs along with five blocks and an assist.
 
As a team, Western had 18 attack errors on 100 total attacks, getting blocked nine times. The Nanooks committed just five errors on the attack and held the Wolves' front line to three blocks.
 
Next up, Western Oregon returns home to host their final four games of the regular season. Northwest Nazarene will visit the Wolves Thursday, Nov. 14, with first serve against the Nighthawks scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
