Alaska Anchorage tops Western Oregon for 16th straight win

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The No. 10 Alaska Anchorage Seawolves came just shy of triple figures on an impressive shooting night Saturday, topping the Western Oregon Wolves 97-52 at Alaska Airlines Center.

Alaska Anchorage (23-1, 15-1) held their tie for first in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with the win, making it 16 consecutive victories for the Seawolves.

Western Oregon (7-15, 4-12 GNAC) was plagued by turnovers in the loss, giving up the ball 27 times while creating 10 UAA turnovers. Anchorage had four players with at least three steals in the game, getting four from both Yazmeen Goo and Safiyyah Yasin.

The Wolves improved their shooting over each of the first three quarters, putting together their best period of shooting at 43.8 percent coming out of the break.

Anchorage shot at least 50 percent from the field in three quarters and above 60 percent in both the first and second.

Kian McNair went 9-of-12 for a game-high 19 points and three assists. She was one of five Seawolves to finish in double figures.

Ali Nelke led WOU with 13 points and six rebounds. The senior forward shot 6-of-8 from the floor.

Ronnie Harris logged her third straight game of 10 or more points, scoring 10 points on Saturday with two rebounds and two assists. Eight of those points for Harris came in the first half to lead the Wolves' offense going into the break.

Western Oregon took 18 shots from the beyond the arc for the third time in five games and made five 3-pointers for the third straight contest. Harris accounted for two of those makes and has multiple 3-pointers under her belt in three straight games.

Next up for Western Oregon is a return home for their final four games of the regular season. Next week the Wolves host Concordia Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. and MSUB Feb. 21 at 5:15 p.m. Both games will be played inside NPE Gym.
