MONMOUTH, Ore.—Belting four home runs in the opener and receiving a shutout performance in the circle in game two, Western Oregon handed Northwest Christian a sweep, 12-4 and 8-0, in softball action on Wednesday afternoon.
With the results, Western Oregon improved to 12-4 on the season while NCU fell to 2-11. Western Oregon will return to action on March 23 when it travels to face Central Washington University.
Game 1: Western Oregon def. Northwest Christian, 12-4
After surrendering two runs in the top of the 3rd, Western Oregon scored nine runs over the next two frames to defeat NCU, 12-4, in the opener.
Tyler Creach got the offense going for the Wolves in the bottom of the 3rd with a 2-run blast to right. Three batters later,
Chandler Bishop followed with a solo homer while
Mariah Deleon closed out the 5-run inning with a 2-run double.
Bishop returned with a 3-run roundtripper in the 4th inning to help the Wolves pull away for a mercy-rule win after five innings.
Haley Fabian (5-1) collected her team-leading fifth win in the complete game performance.
WOU outhit the Beacons 12-to-8 with seven different players recording a hit.
Jenna Kelly went 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored. Bishop notched a career-high five RBI in the game.
Game 2: Western Oregon def. Northwest Christian, 8-0
The Wolves scored at least two runs in three of the four innings they batted to defeat NCU 8-0 in the nightcap.
With the offense once again clicking, freshman
Reilly Tidwell pitched a gem by allowing just two hits in her first career shutout. Tidwell struck out four and walked three to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Ryanne Whitaker went 2-for-3 in the batter's box with two RBI and one run scored.
Alyson Drury and
Macy Christianson provided the final runs for the team. Batting with two outs in the bottom of the 4th, Drury connected on a 2-run single while Christianism delivered an RBI double for the team's eighth run.
