Holdsworth set to run for the 800, along with the men’s DMR as the Wolves prepare for the NCAA Indoor Nationals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Derek Holdsworth will look to continue his dominance in the men's 800-meter, he will then join the other three members of the men's distance medley relay team that will look to bring home titles Friday and Saturday at the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships will take place in Birmingham.

Holdsworth will open the weekend when he runs in the men's 800-meter preliminaries that will take place on Friday at 2:40 p.m. (Pacific Time). He will look to then move on to the finals that will be run on Saturday at 3:10 p.m. (Pacific Time).

Later on Friday, the men's distance medley relay team of Holdsworth, Justin Crosswhite, Gabe Arce-Torres and Max Carmona will look to run for the title at 4:20 p.m. (Pacific Time).

Holdsworth has held the top time in all of Division II in the men's 800-meter since he ripped off a blistering time of 1:47.74 at the UW Invitational towards the end of January. He holds a strong lead over the next closest time of 1:48.94.

The men's DMR team of Crosswhite, Arce-Torres, Carmona and Holdsworth currently hold the 11th fastest time in all of NCAA Division II at 9:52.02 set during that same UW Invitational meet. WOU also holds the 12th time in Division II with the team of Hunter Hutton, Arce-Torres, Crosswhite and Holdsworth posting a time of 9:52.67. The top two times in the men's DMR are currently both under 9:45.00 with Adams State the top mark at 9:44.64 and CSU-Pueblo at 9:44.93.

The men's DMR has a strong tradition in recent years for Western Oregon, having won the indoor national title in back-to-back years during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
