NEW ORLEANS – Coming off of a solid performance at the very competitive Lewis Crossover, the Western Oregon University men's cross country team entered the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) West Regional rankings on Tuesday checking in at No. 10.
With WOU in the rankings, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference now has three teams in the top-10 with Western Washington ranked second and Simon Fraser in third. Chico State leads the rankings out of the CCAA. Fresno Pacific (PacWest, fourth), Biola (PacWest, fifth), Cal State Stanislaus (CCAA, sixth), Azusa Pacific (PacWest, seventh), Cal State San Marcos (CCAA, eighth) and Cal Poly Pomona (CCAA, ninth) round out the poll.
The Wolves went against a few regional opponents in Romeoville this past week including Biola, Cal State San Marcos, Concordia Irvine and Humboldt State. WOU finished ahead of Concordia Irvine and Humboldt State, as the Lumberjacks were ranked 10th in the region entering last week.
WOU placed 13th at the Lewis Crossover, with Miguel Villar leading the way coming in 35th. Bailey Smith wasn't far behind coming in 46th.
The Wolves will travel just down the road this week to compete in the Lewis & Clark Invite this Saturday in Portland.
