SEATTLE, Wash. – The Western Oregon University women's basketball team will conclude the non-conference portion of their schedule this Monday when they play Division I Seattle University starting at 2 p.m., as this will be an exhibition contest for the Wolves. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
WOU (4-3) picked up a dominating 77-39 win over Corban back on Dec. 11 and are now 3-0 at home this year. This will be the first road game in almost a month for the Wolves having traveled to Texas during Thanksgiving and played both Texas A&M-Kingsville and finished the trip at Texas A&M-International on Nov. 26.
On the season, WOU averages 67.7 points, making 187-427 (43.8) from the field, 31-121 (25.6) from three and 69-107 (64.5) from the foul line. The Wolves also average 42.4 rebounds, 14.4 assists and 8.4 steals per game. Opponents average 61.1 points per game, making 142-414 (34.3) from the field, 39-131 (29.8) from three and 105-152 (69.1) from the foul line. Opponents also average 33 rebounds, 11.3 assists, 8.4 steals and 2.1 blocks per game.
Meadow Aragon leads the team in points per game (13.6), rebounds per game (7.7), blocks (19), and field goals (39). Aragon is also shooting 60.9 percent from the field and is tied with Tresai McCarver for the team-lead in free throws made at 15. McCarver leads the team in assists with 27, while averaging 9.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and is shooting over 44 percent from the field making 24-54. Cali McClave adds eight points per game, along with 13 assists and a team-high 12 steals. Kaelin Willams-Kennedy is at 6.8 points per game, Ana McClave tallies six points per game and is tied with her sister Cali for the team-lead in three-pointers with six. Ana also averages 4.9 rebounds per game. Makenna Gambee is just short of averaging six points per game at 5.9, along with four rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
WOU ranks high nationally and in the top-three in the GNAC in several categories including 20th nationally and leading the GNAC in blocked shots (40), eighth nationally and leading the GNAC in blocked shots per game (5.7), 37th nationally and second in the GNAC in defensive rebounds per game (29.3), 64th nationally and third in the GNAC in fewest turnovers (125), 42nd nationally and second in the GNAC in field goal percentage (43.8), 28th nationally and third in the GNAC in field goal percentage defense (34.3), third in the GNAC in offensive rebounds per game (13.1), 15th nationally and second in the GNAC in rebound margin (9.4), 41st nationally and first in the GNAC in rebounds per game (42.43), 83rd nationally in scoring defense (61.1), and third in the GNAC in scoring margin (6.6).
Individually, Aragon is 20th nationally and second in the GNAC in blocked shots (19), ninth nationally and second in the GNAC in blocked shots per game (2.71), fourth in the GNAC in defensive rebounds per game (5.3), 17th nationally and leading the GNAC in field goal percentage (60.9), ninth in the GNAC in offensive rebounds per game (2.4) and fourth in the GNAC in rebounds per game (7.7). McCarver is fourth in the GNAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.50), eighth in the GNAC in assists (27), 94th nationally and fifth in the GNAC in assists per game (3.9). Gambee is fifth in the GNAC in offensive rebounds per game (2.7).
Seattle is 4-5 overall and 1-2 at home. They will play at Montana State on Saturday afternoon before facing the Wolves on Monday.
WOU and Seattle matched up a lot when both teams were in the GNAC, with the Redhawks holding a slight 18-17 series record. The last time the teams played was during the 2006-07 season when the teams were still in the GNAC with Seattle taking both meetings that year before moving back to Division I in 2007.
Since picking up a two-point win over Boise State on Dec. 2, the Redhawks have lost the past two games to Washington (77-59) and then this past Thursday at Montana (83-57). On the season, Seattle averages 63.7 points, making 210-540 (38.9) from the field, 65-204 (31.9) from three and 88-121 (72.7) at the foul line. Seattle also averages 36.7 rebounds, 12.9 assists, 10.6 steals and 3.4 blocks per game. Opponents average 66 points, making 211-559 (37.7) from the field, 66-204 (32.4) from three and 106-162 (65.4) at the foul line. Opponents also average 42.1 rebounds, 14.2 assists, 8.7 steals and 3.7 blocks per game.
Bree Calhoun leads the Redhawks averaging 10.9 points per game, along with 42 assists and 27 steals. McKenzi Williams is also in double-figures in scoring at 10.6 per game, along with 17 assists and 14 three-pointers.
