McCarver Posts Double-Double In Exhibition Contest At D1 Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. – Tresai McCarver collected a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Western Oregon University women's basketball team in an exhibition contest at Division I Seattle University on Monday afternoon inside the Redhawk Center. The Redhawks were able to claim the 61-38 victory.

McCarver went 5-14 from the field, along with a pair of three-pointers in 32 minutes. She added 11 rebounds to complete the double-double, while dishing out three assists and tallied a steal. Cali McClave reached double-figures with 12 points, hitting four three-pointers. She tied McCarver in assists with three. Meadow Aragon sent back three blocks and both Ana McClave and Kaelin Williams-Kennedy posted three steals apiece.

WOU took their first lead of the game just over two minutes in when Cali McClave hit the first of her three-pointers for the 3-2 lead. McCarver added a jumper on the next trip down to keep the lead at one. Midway through the first quarter Cali McClave connected on another three-pointer for the 8-6 lead.

Seattle finished the final minutes of the opening quarter strong on an 8-0 run to take a 14-8 lead.

Neither team was able to score for nearly three minutes into the second quarter when the Redhawks hit a free throw and McCarver answered with a layup off a steal by Aragon to trim the deficit to five.

After trailing by nine the rest of the half, the Wolves got back to within six a couple of times, first on a three-pointer by McCarver and then on another long ball by McCarver before Seattle posted the final four points to take a 26-16 lead at halftime.

Seattle started the third quarter on a 10-1 run to push the lead out to 36-17. McCarver, Aragon and Cali McClave all tallied points over the final few minutes of the third, but Seattle still held a 48-29 lead heading to the fourth.

Amber Winkler, Ana McClave and Cali McClave all hit three-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Redhawks outscored WOU 13-9 over the final 10 minutes to claim the 61-38 victory.

WOU went 14-59 (23.7) from the field, 8-31 (25.8) from three and 2-5 (40) at the foul line. Seattle went 24-63 (38.1), 4-18 (22.2) from three and 9-14 (64.3) from the foul line. The Redhawks used big advantages on bench points (35-3) and points in the paint (32-12) to take the win.

Courtney Murphy led Seattle with 12 points and seven rebounds. Jadynn Alexander added 10 points and six rebounds.

WOU will now be off until Dec. 30 when they will return to GNAC play on the road at Western Washington starting at 7 p.m.
