McCarver, McClave and Aragon Earn GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors

PORTLAND, Ore. – It was a strong showing for the Western Oregon University women's basketball team in the classroom with Tresai McCarver, Cali McClave and Meadow Aragon all being named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team, Presented by Barnes & Noble College on Tuesday.

McCarver, a junior from Renton, Wash., led the way with a 3.73 GPA and is majoring in exercise science. McClave, a sophomore from Corvallis, Ore., was next on the list with a 3.55 GPA and is majoring in community health. Aragon, a sophomore from Grass Valley, Calif., made it three on the list for the Wolves with a 3.24 GPA and is majoring in community health.

McCarver played in all 27 games during the 2019-20 season that included 17 starts. She was third on the team in scoring at 8.7 points per game, while adding 3.9 rebounds, a team-high 71 assists, a second-best 30 steals and also sent back five blocks. McCarver tallied 77 field goals, 23 three-pointers and added 58 free throws. She reached double-figures in scoring in 10 games, with a high of 22 against Western Washington. In 10 games throughout the year McCarver had at least five rebounds including a season-high nine against Concordia (OR), had four or more assists in nine games including a season-high six against Western Washington and added three steals in a game twice versus Sonoma State and Texas A&M-international. It's the second straight season for McCarver to land on the list, having earned academic honors following the 2019-20 season.

McClave had a strong true freshman season in 2019-20 as she also played all 27 games that included 17 starts. McClave was fourth on the team in scoring at 6.4 points per game and was the top three-point shooter on the team connecting on 30. She also made 55 field goals, dished out 22 assists, came away with a team-high 38 steals, sent back a block and averaged 3.4 rebounds per game. McClave scored in double-figures in six games going for a season-high 18 points against Southwest Minnesota State. She made multiple three-pointers in 10 games, sinking three in a game on three different occasions against Alaska Fairbanks, Southwest Minnesota State and Sonoma State. McClave pulled down a season-high seven rebounds in a game twice versus Simon Fraser and Cal State East Bay and had at least five rebounds in a game on seven different occasions. Her strong defensive numbers didn't end there, as she had at least two steals in a game 11 times, going for a season-high four against both Corban and Seattle Pacific.

Aragon also put together a strong true freshman season in 2019-20 seeing action in all 27 games that included 11 starts. She finished third on the team in rebounds averaging 4.1 per contest. Aragon was second on the team in blocks with 22 and she shot well from the field making 46-102 (45.1), added a trio of three-pointers and hit 22 free throws to end up averaging 4.1 points per game. She reached double-figures in scoring twice, going for a season-high 12 points against Simon Fraser. Aragon just missed a double-double with a season-high nine rebounds and 10 points versus Western Washington. She had 12 games with at least five rebounds and sent back multiple blocks in a game on four different occasions with a season-high four against Alaska Anchorage.
