SEATTLE, Wash. – Coming off a pair of two strong victories, the Western Oregon University soccer team will travel to Seattle this week to play two games against Seattle Pacific on Friday and Saturday.
Over the past two weeks WOU (2-3) has picked up wins over Linfield (3-1) and this past Sunday against Humboldt State (4-1). Alyssa Tomasini netted a hat trick in the win over Humboldt State to help her earn Great Northwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. Nowatzke scored the other goal which was her first collegiate tally.
Tomasini continues to pace the offense with five goals and an assist for 11 points. Piper Matson added two assists against Humboldt State and has three on the season to go along with a goal. Camille Darland, Nowatzke, Hannah Rispler and Liz Parker all have goals this season. Gabby Pulliam adds three assists and Chloe Smith also has an assist.
In goal, Morgan Mihelich has seen the most time starting four games. She has tallied nine saves. Kendall Rooney and Emily Wheeler have each played 75 minutes this season. Rooney has two saves and Wheeler has added nine saves. Cassidy Flammang has played 45 minutes this season and has three saves.
Seattle Pacific is off to a 3-0 start to the spring after opening the year with an exhibition against the University of Washington. In the past three wins, SPU has outscored opponents 13-0 taking 4-0 wins over Puget Sound and Saint Martin's and then a 5-0 win this past Saturday over Pacific Lutheran.
The Falcons are led by Sophia Chilczuk who has four goals and an assist for nine points. Chloe Gellhaus added three goals and Sophie Beadle has a goal and three assists. In goal, Riley Travis has started two games and is 2-0 with four saves. Kaitlynn Knocke is 1-0 in 90 minutes played having faced three shots, but none on goal for a save.
WOU and SPU met three times during the 2019 season with the Falcons holding a 2-1 edge. The Wolves won the first meeting 2-0 in Monmouth before SPU won the later meeting in Seattle by a close 2-1 score in overtime. The teams then met in the GNAC Tournament with SPU taking the 4-1 victory.
Since 2001, Seattle Pacific is 33-3-1 in the series again the Wolves. WOU is 3-14-1 at home and 0-19 in Seattle in the series.
WOU and SPU will open their two-game series this Friday starting at 3 p.m. They will turn around and play on Saturday also at 3 p.m.
