MONMOUTH, Ore. – One week after entering the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) National Poll landing in a tie for 23rd, the Western Oregon University baseball team is back this week as the top team receiving votes in the poll. WOU remains third in the West Region Poll.
The Wolves are the top team receiving votes with 31 points. Northwest Nazarene is the top-ranked team in the West Region at No. 8, while Azusa Pacific moved up a spot to No. 17.
WOU remained third in the West Region Poll, tallying 48 points. Northwest Nazarene is still in the top spot, with the gap close between the Nighthawks and Azusa Pacific. Northwest Nazarene has four first-place votes and 58 points, while Azusa Pacific has the other two first-place votes and 56 points. Behind the Wolves in fourth is still Concordia Irvine with 42 points, Central Washington is fifth with 31 points, Hawaii Hilo is sixth with 28 points, Academy of Art is seventh with 27 points, Fresno Pacific is eighth with 17 points, Biola is ninth with 13 points and Holy Names rounds out the top-10 with eight points. Point Loma is receiving votes.
The Wolves will wait until this Sunday, May 23 when the NCAA will announce the field for the baseball championships to see if they will play next week in the West Regional where the top three teams will play at a host site yet to be determined. The NCAA Championship selection show will take place this Sunday at 7 p.m. (Pacific).
