Volleyball Returns to Action This Saturday at Seattle Pacific

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Having last played on Apr. 17, the Western Oregon University volleyball team returns to the court this Saturday when they will play a doubleheader at Seattle Pacific.

The Wolves faced Western Washington in a three-match set Apr. 16-17 and then were scheduled to play at Saint Martin's on Apr. 25, but the Saints had to cancel those games which left WOU without matches for the past two-plus weeks.

WOU (0-5) has played five matches this spring, having opened the season on Apr. 9 at Central Washington. The Wolves played a neutral site match against Alaska Anchorage in Ellensburg before the three matches at Western Washington. WOU closed the final match in Bellingham strong winning the third set and nearly pushing the match to a fifth.

Isabel Hurliman leads the Wolves with 54 points, tallying 49 kills. Lauren Smith adds 45 points and 43 kills. Makenzie York is third on the team with 36.5 points and 31 kills. Aubrey Stanton and Laney O'Neil lead the team in assists with Stanton dishing out 67 assists and O'Neil adding 56 assists. Allie Spear leads the team with 77 digs and has a team-best five service aces. Hurliman adds 47 digs, while York and Bella MacLellan lead the team with eight blocks apiece.

WOU has gone 10-30 in the series against Seattle Pacific since 2000. WOU is 3-17 in Seattle during that time and SPU has gone 8-2 over the last 10 meetings. Last year, the Falcons won both meetings by 3-0 scores.

Seattle Pacific is 8-5 this spring season, going 4-3 at home. Recently, SPU faced Western Washington with the first match taking place in Bellingham that the Vikings won by a 3-0 score on Apr. 23. The teams then turned around and played two in Seattle on Apr. 24 with SPU winning the first match, 3-1, before WWU took the final match by a 3-1 score.

Maddie Batiste leads the Falcons with 147 kills, while Hannah Hair adds 125 and Maddie Pruden with 121. Lindsey Lambert has 403 assists and leads the team in service aces with 20. On defense, Paige Dawson has 144 digs and Lindsay Rosenthal adds 129. Hair has sent back a team-high 68 blocks.

WOU and SPU will open their doubleheader this Saturday starting at 10 a.m. Live video and stats will be available for both matches, with live video by clicking here and live stats by clicking here.
