PORTLAND, Ore. – Coming off of a conference opening win at Simon Fraser, the Western Oregon University football team brought home a pair of honors Monday when Omari Land and Marquis Sampson were named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Players of the Week.
Land was named the GNAC Offensive Player of the Week after powering the Wolves to a road win over Simon Fraser when he rushed for 209 yards on 25 carries and a pair of touchdowns. He averaged 8.4 yards per carry and had a long rush of 42 yards that went for a score to start the second half. Land was part of an offense that rushed for 330 total yards in the 24-7 victory.
Sampson was named the GNAC Special Teams Player of the Week after putting together a couple of big returns both on kickoffs and punts against Simon Fraser. He returned one kickoff for 52 yards that helped setup the touchdown run for Land to start the second half. Sampson also returned five punts for 56 yards with a long of 39 yards. Overall, he accounted for 110 all-purpose yards.
Following the first four games of the season being played on the road, the Wolves will be home this week to host West Texas A&M on Saturday with kickoff set for 1:05 p.m. at McArthur Field.
