Women’s Basketball To Host Alaska Fairbanks This Tuesday Evening

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The second game of four straight at home arrives this Tuesday when the Western Oregon University women's basketball team hosts Alaska Fairbanks at 5:15 p.m. inside New PE Gym in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.

The Wolves (5-5, 1-2 GNAC) are coming off of a thrilling four-point win over Saint Martin's this past Saturday. There were big games all around but none bigger than the effort of Tresai McCarver as she went for 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Madisyn Clark added 15 points and Amber Winkler with 12 points.

WOU will also face Montana State Billings on Thursday and Seattle Pacific on Saturday to close out the homestand.

On the season, the Wolves are averaging 66.5 points per game, making 252-593 (42.5) from the field, 46-168 (27.4) from three and 115-170 (67.6) from the foul line. WOU also averages 40.4 rebounds, 14.2 assists, 8.8 steals and 5.5 blocks per game. Opponents average 64.6 points per game, making 217-585 (37.1) from the field, 64-196 (32.7) from three and 148-215 (68.8) from the foul line. Opponents also average 33.6 rebounds, 12 assists, 9.2 steals and 2.7 blocks per game.

Meadow Aragon leads the team in points per game (12.7), field goals (46), rebounds per game (7.7) and blocks with 22. Coming off of her big game against the Saints, McCarver is averaging 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, while leading the team in free throws (34) and assists (44). She also is tied for the team lead in steals with 17. Cali McClave is third on the team in scoring at 8.7 points, while tying McCarver for the team lead in steals with 17. Kaelin Williams-Kennedy adds 6.3 points and Makenna Gambee is at 5.6 points per game.

Alaska Fairbanks is 1-7 overall and 0-2 in GNAC play. The Nanooks are in the middle of playing five straight games on the road as they lost the opener of the trip to Saint Martin's (51-43) and then came close against Northwest Nazarene as well before falling (81-75). The game at Central Washington was postponed and following the game in Monmouth on Tuesday, UAF will travel to Alaska Anchorage this coming Saturday.

On the season, UAF averages 61.9 points, making 187-538 (34.8) from the field, 41-181 (22.7) from three and 80-116 (69) at the foul line. The Nanooks also average 37.5 rebounds, 13.9 assists, 10.1 steals and 3.1 blocks per game. Opponents average 73.6 points, making 214-544 (39.3) from the field, 48-190 (25.3) from three and 113-172 (65.7) at the foul line. Opponents also average 44 rebounds, 19.5 assists 11.4 steals and 3.4 blocks per game.

Pearle Green leads UAF averaging 15.4 points per game, along with 22 assists and 20 steals. Destiny Reimers adds 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds, along with 24 assists and 14 steals. Claudia Diez Marti is at 9.5 points per game, along with 16 assists and nine steals.

Since 2000, WOU holds a 22-18 series edge against UAF as the teams split the 2019-20 series with WOU dominating in Monmouth by an 89-52 score. The game in Fairbanks went overtime before the Nanooks held on for the 81-76 win. WOU has won the past four meetings in Monmouth as the last win on the road for UAF was during the 2015-16 season taking the 62-61 win.
