Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TURLOCK, Calif. – While the teams were scheduled to play 16 innings, it ended up being an 18-inning day as the Western Oregon University baseball team went extra innings in game one to defeat Stanislaus State, 4-1, in 11 innings. Then in the nightcap, the Wolves used one big inning to take the 5-2 victory to sweep the doubleheader on Saturday.

In the opener, Arturo Alvarez and Parker Johnson combined to limit Stanislaus State (2-2) to just one run on eight hits over 11 innings. Alvarez started and ended up getting the no decision tossing the first 6.1 innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits, while adding four strikeouts. Parker Johnson then went the final 4.2 innings to get his second win (2-0) of the season, along just three hits while striking out four.

Offensively, Hibiki Ouchi, Jacob Maiben, Jackson Holstad, Anthony Zellner and Sebastian Morales all tallied two hits.

WOU (4-3) opened the scoring in the top of the first with Jacob Maiben tallying a sacrifice fly to score Ouchi who doubled earlier in the inning.

Stanislaus State came back to tie the game in the second and then it would remain 1-1 all the way into extra innings.

The Wolves put the game out of reach in the 11th inning. With one out, Ouchi connected on a 0-1 pitch and hit a solo home run to put WOU in front. Jacob Maiben walked and after the second out was recorded, Holstad came through with a triple to right-center to score Jacob Maiben. Holstad then scored on a wild pitch to give the Wolves a three-run inning and a 4-1 lead.

Johnson closed the door in the home half working around a single by getting a double play to secure the 4-1 win.

WOU held a 12-8 edge in hits and there was just one error committed in the game by the Wolves.

Danny Murphy led Stanislaus State with three hits, while Jonluke Goldman added two hits. Hunter Stonier had the only RBI. On the mound, Tony Jacob started and went the first five innings, allowing one earned run. Trevor Mcinerney went the next 5.1 innings to take the loss (0-1) allowing two earned runs. Damian Vallejos pitched the final two-thirds of the 11th inning.

Sebasten Boivin got the final out in the sixth before Michael Moore worked a scoreless seventh to complete the save and win.

Jacob Maiben and Derek Maiben led the offense with two hits apiece, while Ouchi and Curran Mitzel added hits.

Trailing 1-0, the Wolves put the game away in the third. Mitzel tied the game with a solo home run to right-center. Derek Maiben followed with a single, Ouchi walked and then Jacob Maiben singled to load the bases. Weston worked a bases-loaded walk for the RBI and 2-1 lead. After the second out was recorded, Jack Strickland hit a ball to left that was misplayed by the left fielder and the error brought in all three runs to give WOU a 5-1 lead.

The pitching took it from there allowing just one more run to take the 5-2 victory.
