Women’s Basketball Hosts Alaska Anchorage On Tuesday Night

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Another Tuesday home game is on the schedule for the Western Oregon University women's basketball team when they will host Alaska Anchorage this Tuesday night starting at 5:15 p.m.

WOU (8-9, 4-6 GNAC) will play one home game this week before traveling to face Seattle Pacific on Thursday and Montana State Billings on Saturday.

The Wolves snapped a four-game losing streak with a solid 49-47 road win at Saint Martin's this past Saturday in Lacey. Madisyn Clark scored the go-ahead layup with 38 seconds left and that was WOU's only lead of the game. It also gave the Wolves a season sweep of the Saints.

WOU will see Alaska Anchorage twice this month traveling to Alaska at the end of the month on Feb. 24.

The Wolves average 64.6 points, making 400-1,002 (39.9) from the field, 88-313 (28.1) from three and 211-305 (69.2) at the foul line. WOU also averages 39.2 rebounds, 13.5 assists, 8.5 steals and 5.4 blocks. Opponents average 64.9 points, making 388-1,014 (38.3) from the field, 106-337 (31.5) from three and 222-332 (66.9) at the foul line. Opponents also average 36.5 rebounds, 13.4 assists, 8.8 steals and 2.9 blocks.

Meadow Aragon is coming off of a 17 rebound and three block performance against the Saints. She leads the Wolves in points per game (11.9), rebounds per game (7.8), field goals (64), and blocks (32). Aragon is shooting almost 54 percent from the field making 64-119. Tresai McCarver leads the team in assists with 67, steals with 31 and free throws with 55. She also averages 10.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 58 field goals. Cali McClave is third on the team in points per game at 8.8 and leads the team in three-pointers with 19. She also adds 34 assists and 27 steals. Clark is at 7.6 points, 30 assists and is second on the team with 16 three-pointers. Alexis Wright averages 5.5 points and 3.9 rebounds, along with 10 blocks and is shooting almost 50 percent (41-83) from the field. Kaelin Williams-Kennedy is at 5.3 points and Makenna Gambee at 5.1 points. Amber Winkler is second on the team with 25 blocks.

Alaska Anchorage, always one of the top teams in the GNAC and ranked nationally, has won the past 33 meetings in the series. During the 2019-20 season, The Seawolves won by scores of 76-48 in Monmouth and 73-41 in Anchorage. UAA is 17-3 in both home and road games against WOU since 2000.

Alaska Anchorage is 14-4 overall and 7-3 in GNAC play, going 7-2 away from home and 6-2 in true road contests. Following a rare three-game losing streak with two losses to Montana State Billings, the Seawolves have now won four straight picking up two wins over Seattle Pacific and just won two home games against Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington.

UAA averages 69.3 points per game, making 441-1,100 (40.1) from the field, 124-384 (32.3) from three and 242-344 (70.3) at the foul line. The Seawolves also average 35.6 rebounds, 15.9 assists, 12.4 steals and 1.7 blocks per game. Opponents average 59.1 points, making 360-940 (38.3) from the field, 97-317 (30.6) from three and 246-330 (74.5) at the foul line. Opponents also average 34.8 rebounds, 14.7 assists, 6.3 steals and 2.6 blocks.

Tennae Voliva leads UAA averaging 11.1 points, along with 6.4 rebounds, 31 assists and 41 steals. Nicole Pinckney adds 8.7 points, 61 assists and 61 assists. Sala Langi adds 7.8 points and Jahnna Hajdukovich tallies 7.4 points.
