SEATTLE, Wash. – The Western Oregon University men's basketball team had five players score at least nine points and a strong second half kept things close before Seattle Pacific took the 76-65 Great Northwest Athletic Conference victory Tuesday inside Brougham Pavilion.
Cameron Cranston and Collin Warmouth each tallied 12 points to lead the way. Cranston added three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in 39 minutes. Warmouth tallied four rebounds and an assist. Daisone Hughes collected 11 points, five rebounds and two assists. John Morrill-Keeler added 10 points, nine rebounds, four steals and an assist. Zach Moore just missed double-figures in scoring with nine points and three rebounds.
WOU (3-15, 2-8 GNAC) outscored SPU (13-8, 6-4 GNAC) 44-36 over the final 20 minutes to make it a tighter second half.
The Falcons came out of the gates on fire and held a 23-2 lead just over seven minutes in. The Wolves got to within 13 on a layup by Morrill-Keeler before SPU was able to push the lead back near 20 holding a 40-21 lead at halftime.
Cranston hit a three-pointer and after free throws by Qiant Myers, Warmouth hit a layup to trim the deficit back to 16. Warmouth hit a three a little bit later to make it a 13-point game and then Moore closed the scoring with a jumper to provide the final margin of 76-65.
WOU went 25-59 (42.4) from the field, 7-20 (35) from three and 8-12 (66.7) at the foul line. The Wolves held advantages in second chance points (12-6) and bench points (29-12).
Zack Paulsen led the Falcons with 17 points. Divant'e Moffitt added 16 points and nine rebounds. Harry Cavell tallied 12 points and Shaw Anderson gave SPU four in double-figures with 10 points. SPU went 28-56 (50) from the field, 6-16 (37.5) from three and 14-16 (87.5) at the foul line.
WOU will continue the road trip playing at Western Washington in Bellingham this Thursday at 7 p.m. before closing the trip in Canada against Simon Fraser on Saturday starting at 3 p.m.
