MONMOUTH, Oregon --- The Western Oregon football team was strong on both sides of the ball as it picked up its first win of the season - a 42-10 victory over Lincoln (CA) at McArthur Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves (1-1) racked up 452 yards of offense (5.6 yards per play) while holding the Oaklanders (0-3) to 135 yards and 2.6 yards per play.
WOU got it going right from the get go as took the first drive 70 yards over eight plays capped with the first of three rushing touchdowns for
Omari Dixon-Land.- a 1-yard plunge - to make it 7-0 three minutes into the contest. The big play on the drive came on a
Gannon Winker 25 yard pass to
Damon Hickok on third and nine to keep the drive alive.
The Wolves' defense held strong on LU's next possession, forcing a punt that was blocked and recovered by WOU at the Oaklander 1.
Dixon-Land then again ran it in from a yard out to make 14-0 with 9:23 left in the first half.
After an LU field goal later in the first quarter made it 14-3 - WOU scored the next three touchdowns - a
Kainoa Jones 3-yard run in the second, a Dixon-Land 2-yard run with 12 seconds left in the first half and then
Joey Sinclair had a pick-6 for the Wolves on the opening drive of the second half to make it 35-3.
The Wolves cruised from there, adding a Winker 7-yard touchdown pass to
Thomas Wright to make the final 42-10.
Winker finished the game 20-for-34 for 249 yards and a touchdown. Thomas had three catches for 65yards and a touchdown while
London Smalley had a team-high five catches for 52 yards.
Dixon-Land added 94 yards on the ground to go with three catches for 15 yards.
Armaad Hubbard had 56 yards on four carries while
Andrew Valladares had 44 yards on eight carries.
Jaylin Parnell paced the defense with six tackles and two sacks while
Isaiah Abraham had five tackles and Sinclair added four tackles to go along with his pick-six.
The Wolves are back in action in their first ever Lone Star Conference game next Saturday at Western New Mexico.
