MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon men's soccer team moved its unbeaten streak to six games as the Wolves picked up first-half goals from
Gabriel Silva and
Alex Grignon to defeat Western Washington 2-1 Thursday afternoon at WOU Turf Field.
The second-year Wolves men's program (7-2-1 overall, 4-0-1 GNACÂ - 13 points) sit atop the conference standings thanks to going 5-0-1 over its last six contests - scoring multiple goals in each contest.
WOU got on the bard in the 15th minute as
Andres Labate hit Grignon who crossed it into Silva who scored his fifth goal of the season to make it 1-0.
Five minutes later it was Grignon doing the scoring to make it 2-0 thanks to assists from
Moises Cisneros and
Yahir Ocampo.
The score remained that way until a WWU (4-5-2, 1-3-1) goal in the 69th minute, but the Wolves held off the Vikings the rest of the way for its fourth win in a row.
While the Wolves were outshot 17-10, they had more shots on goal (6-5) than WOU.
Juan Suarez picked up four saves for the Wolves in the victory.
The Wolves hit the road for a key contest at Simon Fraser on Sunday as the Red Leafs enter Thursday evening's action in second place in the conference (2-0-1, seven points)
