MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon women's soccer team defeated Central Washington 2-1 behind a Hannah Rispler goal in the 89th minute at the WOU Turf Field on Thursday afternoon.
The Wildcats (2-10-0, 1-6-0) took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but the Wolves (7-2-2, 4-2-1) tied the contest with a goal from Rispler in the 57th minute. Leeci Snyder provided Rispler with a pinpoint pass from a corner kick, and Rispler headed the ball into the bottom left corner.
The match continued to be closely contested throughout the second half, until the Wolves scored a thrilling goal in the 89th minute to take a 2-1 lead. The Wolves scored the second goal in a manner similar to the first - Snyder lofted a corner kick to Rispler, who performed a one-touch goal into the top of the net. These were Rispler's first goals and Snyder's first assists of the season.
Despite the one goal, the Wolves' defense played a major role in the win. The Wildcats were held to nine shots in the game, with only two being on target. Sophia Pierce made one save in the contest.
The Wolves will return to the pitch on Saturday to face Saint Martin's at the WOU Soccer Field with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
