BELLINGHAM, Wash. --- The Western Oregon men's soccer team again used some late-game heroics – this time scoring in the 89
th minute to secure a 2-2 draw against Western Washington on Thursday at Harrington Field.
Trailing 2-1 with less than two minutes remaining, WOU"s
Jacob Garcia took a pass from Hunter Neubeck and took down the left side. Garcia then crossed it toward the middle where
Gabriel Silva beat a defender to the ball and punched it in the lower-left corner to tie the match in the 89th minute at 2-2 - giving the Wolves another important point.
The Wolves (8-3-2 overall, 5-1-2 GNAC) and Vikings (4-6-4, 1-4-3) played a scoreless first half before WWU scored 50 seconds into the second half to take a 1-0 lead.
The Wolves answered when Silva scored his first goal of the contest into the upper-right corner off a shot by
Alejandro Velasco in the 68
th minute to even the score at 1-1.
The Vikings took the lead again in the 77
th minute and the Wolves looked in trouble until the late Silva goal.
