LACEY, Wash. --- The Western Oregon men's soccer team kept its turnaround, second-year campaign rolling as the Wolves tied a program high in goals and won by the largest margin in the program's short history in a 4-0 victory at Saint Martin's on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
The Wolves (9-3-2 overall, 6-1-2 GNAC) were helped by an own goal in just the second minute and never trailed - getting
Gabriel Silva's eighth goal of the season in the 28th minute (assisted by
Jacob Garcia), an Andrews Labate goal in the 74th minute (assisted by
Alex Grignon and
Yahir Ocampo) and a Grignon goal in the 79th minute (assisted by
Alejandro Velasco and Labate).
WOU was in control throughout much of the contest, outshooting SMU (4-7-2, 2-5-1) 19-6 overall and 10-1 on shots on goal - with
Juan Suarez making the lone save for the Wolves.
Since there have been two "no contests" due to weather-related cancelations, the
standings are by points per match and WOU sits in second at 2.22 - behind Simon Fraser (2.71).
The Wolves play their final two home games of the season next week as WOU hosts Montana State Billings on Thursday and Seattle Pacific on Saturday.
