MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon volleyball team nearly pulled off its first win against Alaska Anchorage since 2012 as the Wolves fell in five sets (25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-11) Saturday night at New PE Building.
The Wolves (8-7 overall, 2-5 GNAC) jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead against the Seawolves (11-11, 3-4) in the fifth set thanks to kills from
Bella MacLellan and
Madison Hornback WOU led 4-3 before a 5-0 run by UAA made it 8-4. The Wolves thanks to a kill from Hornback and back-to-back kills from Asciutto cut the lead to one at 8-7, but couldn't get over the hump and fell 15-11.
The Wolves were led by a career-high 22 kills by Hornback and she added 13 digs (tied for the team high with
Sophie Matlock). Asciutto had 10 kills for the Wolves while
Sarah Strus and
Bailee Hartsook added seven apiece.
Samantha Darby led the Wovles with 35 assists while
Kealani Rosa had 16.
WOU returns to action on the road Thursday at Simon Fraser.
