SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. --- The Western Oregon men's basketball team dropped its season opener to 13th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino 93-71 Friday afternoon at Coussoulis Arena.
The Wolves (0-1) got off to a hot start as a
Kris Cook bucket with 14:27 left in the first half gave WOU an 18-6 advantage.Â
The Coyotes (1-0) slowly got back into the game, taking a 27-26 lead with 4:49 remaining in the half. The score was tied at 34 before a 10-2 run by CSUSB gave it a 44-36 lead at the break.
After a
Qiant Myers basket made it 44-38, the Coyotes went on an 11-0 run to take a 55-38 advantage with 15:03 remaining and WOU wouldn't get with 15 the rest of the contest.
Jason Gallant led the Wolves with 21 points (going 11-for-12 from the line) while
Mekhi McIntyre had 17 points and
Cameron Benzel had 10 points, four rebounds and two blocks. Myers had a team-high six assists to go along with six points and three rebounds.
The Wolves return to action 11 a.m. Saturday in San Bernardino as they take on CSU Monterey Bay.
