SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. --- The Western Oregon men's basketball team had six players finish in double figures, but fell to Cal State Monterey Bay 99-92 in overtime at Coussoulis Arena.
It was a tight game much of the contest with the Wolves (0-2) eventually ahead 79-75 with 33 seconds remaining after a
Jason Gallant free throw. The Otters (1-1) needed just six seconds to score before another Gallant free throw made it 80-77 with 25 seconds left.
Again, MSUMB needed little tim to score as it cut the lead to 80-79 after dunk with 18 seconds left. Gallant drained a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left for WOU to make it a three-point game again before MSUMB tied it with a 3-pointer with six seconds left.
WOU had one last chance in regulation, but a 3-pointer was off the mark and the teams headed to overtime. The Otters scored first and never trailed in the extra period to come away with the win.
Qiant Myers had a double-double for the Wolves with a career-high 20 points to go along with 10 assists and five rebounds. Gallant finished with 17 points, six rebounds and four assist,
Kris Cook had 12 points and four rebounds,
Mekhi McIntyre had 11 points,
Cameron Benzel had 10 points and eight rebounds and
Carson Frincke had 10 points.
WOU plays its home opener 7 p.m. Tuesday against Multnomah.
