Myers' triple-double paces Wolves past Multnomah in home opener

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- Western Oregon Qiant Myers put up the seventh triple-double in GNAC history and the first for a Wolves player since 2017 to help WOU defeat Multnomah 79-66 Tuesday night in its home opener at New PE Building.

Myers finished with 14 points, 13 assists (tying a career high) and 11 rebounds to put up the first triple-double for WOU since Tanner Omlid Feb. 4, 2017 (18 points, 15 rebounds and 11 steals). It's the third time a WOU player has had a triple-double in the GNAC era with the other coming from Robert Day on Dec. 16, 2003 (21 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists). It's the first in the GNAC since Dec. 13, 2019, as well as the first in NCAA D-II this season.

As for the contest itself, the Wolves (1-2) pulled away with under 10 minutes left in the first half, using a 13-2 run to turn a game tied at 21 into a 34-23 lead with less than five minutes to go in the first half. WOU pushed the lead to 18 points at the half thanks to a layup by Zach Moore with 27 remaining.

The leads grew to as large as 23 points in the second half and no fewer than the final score of 13 points as WOU cruised to the win.

WOU had four other players finish in double figures with Carson Frincke leading the way with 21 points to go along with six rebounds and four 3-pointers. Kris Cook had 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals, Zach Moore had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Cameron Benzel just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Wolves return to action 5 p.m. Friday against Stanislaus State at the Ron Logsdon Basketball Challenge in Rohnert Park, California.
